A person that walks down the street and walks different, talks different, or looks different are looked at as an outcast. This is entirely wrong because they are human, not an alien. Do you think they ever chose to have a birth defect? Do you think they want to be seen as different? No, these people think that they are the same as everyone else and they are except for how they learn. In the the movie Flowers For Algernon the main character Charlie Gordon has a learning disability. To him all of his actions are right, but to others he isn't doing anything correct. In the movie, Charlie was listening to Ms. Kinnian, but when he was listening her he picked up a paintbrush and was rubbing it on his nose. To him that is completely normal, but to us it is weird. When we someone with a disability and they are doing something different just accept what they are doing and just roll with it.
(Andrew) The first time I saw a disabled kid was at a pool. He had down syndrome and was stomping, splashing, and yelling. I thought that he was going to hurt someone so I got scared. I asked my dad what was wrong with him and he said that he had a mental disability.
(Lane!) The first time I saw was at school in fist grade. He acted out, and made loud noises. I wondered why he was acting out. My mom later explained to me why different kids are like that and how they are different. From then on I always tried to be extra kind to the kids with disabilities.
